Taken me a long time to review this as I was hoping to see it again before I did. I liked every bit of this irreverent, self-aware punch of a superhero movie and all its superfluous, crude throwaway gimmicks.
Ryan is hopefully in the suit all the way through although it wouldn’t surprise me if they announced he wasn’t, just for a laugh! (That would be an awesome gag to see him hiding in a corner somewhere when Dead Pool goes past as if he was accidentally caught on set!!)
So… it’s violent. No getting away from that one. But it’s, you know, kinda funny violence in a he-just-cut-his-arm-off way. Hmm. You have to see it. No, really, you HAVE to see this movie. If only for the unicorn…and Morena who is lovely and a wonderful ‘real’ actor foil for the silly acting of Ryan.
That’s the thing, the scale of the glibness is astounding. Piss-take at Marvel, at Dead Pool, at the camera – it’s like…. let’s see… like a bunch of Uber geek Uber fans were trained up on film making skills so quick that they didn’t forget their nerdyness and then given a massive budget to produce the most unserious thing based on a comic ever.
For comic fans, superhero fans and for those who like a stupidly funny take on the whole scifi thing. Lots of swearing and fornicative activity so you’ve been warned if you’re a prude.
Yeah that’s about it. Go see.
I wanted to see again to make sure the jokes aren’t just one-time-only. I’ll let you know if I think they are but until then get your fun-lovin ads to the screen and give it some lycra-love.
Watchability (once, twice, etc.)
