Smooth, well made, incredibly well blended scifi effects and some cool actor-on-actor style work. Nothing to complain about really although the plot is another of the overall predictable, teenager against the world-style.
However, it’s still a good movie. Not as bad as some of the same style as there isn’t any major angst trip, instead they’ve gone for characters driven story and a couple of solid, well written women in the middle (Shailene and Ashley) who don’t go all ‘yo, bitch!’ or the alternative girly-sob-sob but hit a better, more realistic balance. The guys in it tend to be stereo-typical but still 2 and 3 dimensional so not all bad!
Kate’s is probably the worse part and really needed to be a bit more substantial but doesn’t spoil anything.
Overall, a good, well made film that doesn’t challenge and is a clear set up for a sequel. Maybe a B+
