Everything falls into place eventually but to start with I got a strange feeling that I should have seen a previous film. Then at the end it’s obvious they were looking for a follow up, perhaps a TV series. In fact the whole thing feels like a very epic, large budget pilot for some show I don’t know about.

Not bad, defo not that. There’s special effects and costumes and camaraderie and bad guys and good guys and all sorts of strange beings and 3D people. It’s a collection of fantasy and mysticism that kinda works but also kinda doesn’t seem to resolve itself.

Performances are good. Some better than others and some a bit blah. Noah is incredibly angst ridden and shows a very insecure hero battling with why people aren’t just being nice and getting on a bit more. Very nicely played and without a hint of the ‘look-at-me’ acting cardboard that some older actors think is so great.

So it’s one for everyone albeit a little more kiddy than adult. Having said that there are parts that seemed to me to be darker than small kids might want so it’s a mixed bag in places. Perhaps the script was re-written a number of times to try to get the right balance and someone with a purse eventually said, hey, that’ll do.

Anyway, a good wee adventure, maybe not as satisfying as it could have been.
