What’s The Point?

12 January 2020

What’s the point? Always worth asking.

This is primarily a film review site based on my opinion and not affiliated with any company or organisation of any kind. I do this for fun.

Whilst most reviews go on about the plot of a film and tell you how the characters are related, I’d prefer not to go into all the details. I just want to say if it’s scifi, drama, cartoon, or comedy and whether it’s any good. I don’t think you need me to tell you all the same details you’ve got from everywhere else. If you’d rather I did then let me know and I’ll have a ‘blurb’ corner or something!

A lot of reviewers spend more time talking about themselves and how knowledgeable they are than the film.  Not me. I’m not clever like that. If you need to know everything about the plot and where the ‘highs’ and ‘lows’ might be (why do you need that?) or you’re keen to find out if the producer went to lunch with the make-up artist on day 2 of the shoot or whether the security guard also did Shakespeare then go to another site/magazine and come back here for that honest opinion I promised.

I’m not saying I’ve the only honest opinion so do the rounds on a few trusted sites but the well known companies have already proven to me they are not reliable. All I want to do is give you a no frills comment on what I thought of the picture. If you get a few of those together then maybe you won’t waste time and money on the dross and also might find a few of your own taste in gems along the way.

Of course it’s all opinion but when I see that a magazine gives a rave review of a film that is rubbish and they then they have a special edition edited by the director with behind-the-scenes articles…. well, to me it seems like they might not be reliable. One mag even looked back on it’s own reviews and claimed that the after-screening party was great and that’s why they gave the movie 5 stars. Make your own mind up but try not to fall for the hype.

Feel free to give feedback. I don’t know how to ‘market’ this blog so link to it if you want and let me know so I can link back.

For anyone who’s interested, I like at least one song by the Melbourne group TISM. The blog name is a give-away there!
